A new environmental regulation put in place at the Kentucky Transpark is intended to cut down on air pollution and help the area's environment.
The anti-idling rule will require all diesel-fueled Class A tractor trailers to shut off their engines and use electric power while parked at any Transpark site for any significant length of time.
The EPA says Class A diesel rigs can use up 1.2 billion gallons of fuel and release 11 million tons of toxins into the air while idling each year.
Transpark President Jim Vance says the anti-idling rule is designed to put a small dent in those numbers.
Trucks will be able to plug into provided electrical outlets to power their sleeper compartments or heating and cooling units.
