Saudi officials say a terror plot they’ve broken up was on the verge of being carried out.
Police said they’ve arrested 172 Islamic militants in an alleged plot to carry out suicide attacks against public figures oil facilities and military zones.
An interior ministry spokesman tells the Associated Press that the planning was nearly complete except for setting the zero hour for the attacks.
The spokesman also said some of the detainees had already been sent to other countries to train as pilots to attack Saudi oil fields.
Al Qaeda’s number two leader, Ayman Al Zawahiri, recently called for attacks on Middle Eastern oil infrastructure as a way to hurt the U.S.
