Corvettes roll into BG for C5/C6 Bash

While the temperatures cooled off, that didn’t stop Corvette enthusiasts from celebrating the sports car.

The C5/C6 Bash is the kickoff to the event season at the National Corvette Museum.

For Vicki Hicks the Corvette is a classic.

“That was the car that everyone wanted when we were teenagers. It was the coolest car in the world,” Hicks said.

Hicks still thinks the Corvette is the coolest car, so for her husband’s 50th birthday she bought him one.

“People teased him that I had given him a Corvette. What was he going to give me? He gave me a ‘72 Corvette,” Hicks said.

The Hicks fleet expanded to include a 2001 C5 Vette.

“It’s like peanuts - you can’t have one. It’s an addiction almost,” Hick said.

Other Corvette enthusiasts echo Hicks’ sentiments.

Tracey Richardson said she’s been a fan of the car since she was four-years-old.

“It was just in my blood. My mom named me Tracey and if you take the two letters off the front and the end, its race,” Richardson said.

Her obsession with the sports car doesn’t end with admiration. Tracey has owned seven Corvettes and her eighth one is currently on order.

“I’ve always liked the speed and I’ve always liked the Corvette. It’s America’s sports car,” Richardson said.

As for Hicks, every time she makes the trip to Bowling Green she said it feels like family.

The 2008 Corvettes were rolled out at Friday’s event.

Enthusiasts had the chance to see the enhancements to the new version and hear from the engineers who helped design the sports car.
