More than half a million babies are born too soon every year and many of them die.
It's one reason why hundreds of community members participated in the March of Dimes WalkAmerica on Saturday in Bowling Green.

WalkAmerica helps save babies and gives hope to families.

Last year the walk raised $55,000 dollars.

This year, walkers reached their goal of $61,000 dollars.

To date, WalkAmerica has raised more than 1.7 billion dollars nationwide.

This money supports research and programs to find the causes of premature birth and how to prevent it and other serious threats to infant health.

There were nearly 700 walkers during the walk in Bowling Green who participated, to raise money to help save babies from birth defects, prematurity and infant mortality.
