Lost River Cave Clean-Up

To celebrate Earth Day this weekend, volunteers are busy doing spring cleaning around Lost River Cave in Bowling Green.

The clean-up focuses on removing exotic plants from Lost River Valley in order to allow native plants to re-claim the land.

The biggest enemy of the day during Saturday's clean-up was winter creeper.

"It's very rewarding because the work, you can actually see what you're accomplishing. It's very satisfying to get those vines off the ground and know the next time you come through there'll be something different in its place, something that should actually be there", says Rho Lansden, with the group Friends of Lost River.

Kentuckians live on a karstland filled with caves.

Those caves, like Lost River, and their surrounding areas provide a safe haven for unique plants and animals.
