Spider-Man dominating the theaters this weekend

If you want to go to the movies this weekend, there will be no escaping Spider-Man 3. The film is opening in more than 4,200 theaters around the country, and there are 20 viewings at the Great Escape 12 right here in Bowling Green, KY. George Pennacchio has the latest.

The summer movie season kicks off early with the third installment in the hugely successful Spider-Man comic book series. Spidey number three is loaded with more action and visual effects than ever before. And all that excitement just might be affecting our hero, whose head may be getting a little too big for that mask.

"Oh, for sure! Yeah, I mean, you know, Peter's not really that way at all but I think all of the attention and the adoration from people is like getting to his head and he starts to get kind of cocky," Tobey Macguire said. "He's basically like a really good guy, but you know, he gets himself into some trouble in this one."

Some of that trouble comes from within - with Peter battling his own dark side for much of the movie, and to go along with those dark feelings a new dark suit. Spiderman also finds plenty of problems with the likes of Sandman, played by Thomas Haden Church; Venom and his alter ego, ambitious photographer Eddie Brock, played by Topher Grace; and new Goblin, the villainous side to Peter's on-again off-again best friend, Harry Osborn. James Franco reprises his role as Harry, and he thinks the third time will definitely be the charm for this sequel.

"I am pretty confident it'll do well. Spider-Man 1 had the record for opening box office weekend and then they lost it to Pirates 2, so I'm pretty sure they want to get it back," Franco said.
