Injury insurance for those working with horse racing

Some of the smallest athletes in the world could be receiving big benefits.

U.S. Rep. Ed Whitfield has co-sponsored a bill that would provide injury insurance for jockeys and others who work in horse racing.

The proposal would require racing authorities to use revenues to offer on-track injury and health insurance for jockeys, exercise workers, trainers and track workers.

Whitfield said the dangers of horse racing should not be ignored.
