Motorists will soon find more lanes of traffic as they head to the William Natcher Parkway.
The stretch of 31-W that goes from Campbell Lane to the Parkway will be extended to a five-lane road complete with gutters and sidewalks.
According to Kiersten Jaggers with the Transportation Cabinet, the $10.7 million dollar project will cut down on congestion for the nearly 22,000 commuters and industrial traffic that drive the road daily.
"There's a broad mix of traffic in that area and we're hoping that this widening will help to increase the mobility of the traffic out there and reduce congestion and make things a whole lot safer," Jaggers said.
Utility work on the project began last week.
Jaggers also said the expansion should be complete by the fall of 2008.
