Democrats look at new funding bill

House Democrats are reviewing a new proposal for funding the Iraq war; this after last week’s presidential veto of a funding bill that included a clause to bring troops home.

The new legislation would fund the war through July and gives Congress the option of cutting off money if conditions don’t get better. Republicans immediately reacted saying the proposal unfairly rations money needed for combat.

House Democrats want a bill that supports the troops, but doesn’t give President Bush a blank check.

The proposal is expected to meet Senate resistance.
