Wal-Mart awarded two Edmonson County educators and a Barren County educator as Teachers of the Year on May 8, 2007.

Tina Tunks and Mechille Gravil were this year’s Edmonson County recipients and Susan Chenoweth is the Barren County recipient.

The Leitchfield Wal-Mart honored Tunks with its Teacher of the Year award. Tunks teaches fifth grade at the Edmonson County Fifth and Sixth Center and she’s been teaching for 21 years.

The Bowling Green Wal-Mart presented its award to Gravil.

Gravil is in her 18th year of teaching and she currently teaches eighth grade at Edmonson County Middle School.

The Bowling Green Wal-Mart received 27 nominations from her students recognizing Mrs. Gravil as an outstanding teacher.

The Glasgow Wal-Mart honored Chenoweth with its Teach of the Year award. Chenoweth, who teaches third grade at Temple Hill Elementary, was selected the 12th winner of the annual Wal-Mart Teacher of the Year program.

Winners are selected but a committee of Wal-Mart employees from the student nominations they receive at each store.

Both teachers received a special polo shirt and a $100 gift card for their personal use. On top of that, their respective school’s principal will receive a $1,000 check for the school’s use.
