Flames shoot in the air when an oil rig explodes in Metcalfe County.
Officials with Rick-Rod Oil Incorporated out of Columbia, Ky., said the fire happened the morning of May 9, 2007, during drilling in the Sulfur Well community of Metcalfe County. A company spokesman said something cracked on the rig, causing oil to spew where it shouldn't, and the rig went up in flames.
No one at the site was injured, and the Metcalfe County Fire Department extinguished the blaze.
Rick-Rod Oil calls it a significant well that will produce up to 500 barrels a day.
