Four people in Manchester are homeless after a fire burned down three apartments.

No one was injured in the fire that started the day after Thanksgiving and the firefighters put out the flames, but not before three homes lost everything.

Oma Smallwood took her granddaughter out to breakfast Friday morning.

"Then my neighbor called me, telling me to get back to the apartment because it was on fire," said Smallwood.

Three fire departments quickly arrived on the scene.

"Found that it was an oven hood that had caught on fire and when we arrived, it was through the roof," said Jamie Mills, Manchester Fire Department.

It took almost two hours for Mills and crews to put out the fire. He says the fire started in Smallwood's apartment. The flames crawled to the roof, then spread to two other apartments.

"It was a tough fire being the way the apartments were made then it got in the roof as well. Anytime you get a fire in the roof its hard to handle,"said Mills.

Once the smoke cleared, everything Smallwood owned was gone.

"I had several afghans I had made, seven or eight quilts, my big TV, everything is destroyed," said Smallwood.

Smallwood has family she can stay with in the meantime, but she says the timing, right around the holidays, makes this tougher.

"Everything is destroyed I don't know what to do." said Smallwood.

"It's very tough, very tough. Anytime this happens especially around the holidays, we've got Christmas coming up. It's just a tragedy," said Mills.

"I thank the Lord that me and my granddaughter got out alive. That we weren't here," said Smallwood.

Although it may take time, Smallwood says she hopes to find a new place to live on her own. Officials are still investigating the cause of the fire. They hope to know how it spread so quickly in the next few days.
