2006 Trooper of the Year

Kentucky State Police have named their 2006 Trooper of the Year.

Hopkinsville resident Detective Steven Silfies is a four-year veteran of state police and is assigned to the Madisonville, Ky., post. During the past year, Silfies has played a leading role in the investigation of six murder cases.

He's also credited with being active in resolving several cold cases, including the arrest of an out-of-state resident in a 27-year-old case.

Thirty-eight other troopers were recognized in the ceremony, including two Bowling Green, Ky., men. Trooper 1st Class Jonathan Holbrook received the KSP Citation for Bravery. Detective Forrest Winchester, Jr. was named trooper of the year for the Bowling Green post.
