Students at Natcher Elementary school are celebrating Friday's as "Hat Days." These hat days are in honor of Leslie Lloyd the school's music teacher. Lloyd is undergoing chemotherapy treatments for breast cancer.
Lloyd told WBKO, "I was out about three weeks and when I came back, they asked where I'd been. I told them I had surgery, and I didn't really go into much detail but then when I started losing my hair and wearing hats, I explained especially to the younger ones that I'm on a special medicine that makes your hair fall out." After many questions regarding why she was wearing the hats, staff decided to have students wear them as well.
The music teacher says she hopes that wearing hats will be a learning tool. Lloyd says, "It's a learning thing and that they'll see that people that do have cancer do get well."
By next fall, Lloyd hopes to be finished with chemo treatments and have her hair back.
