Last week on Adventures in Kentucky, I learned to sail. Tonight, I’ll take us to a local event showcasing some amazing pilots and aerial acrobatics, but it may not be what you think.

The Bluegrass Jet Jam is a Bowling Green event that draws in pilots from all over the United States.

“As far as the event, it’s a two-year-old event that started in the early nineties and we brought it back in 2006,”

If you’re wondering how it’s possible to miss such a gathering of jets and pilots, it’s because these pilots control their jets from the ground and the aircrafts are only about three feet long, but don’t let the size fool you. These jets are still exciting to watch.

With 82 members, the Southern Kentucky Aero Club is quickly growing and so is their facility. Skymac Park is one of the few remote control airplane parks in the nation that can accommodate these fast jets and the crowds that follow them.

Since no one in their right mind would ever let an untrained pilot, like myself, fly one of these $15,000 planes, I head down to the flight line with the professionals.

If you’re wondering how to get involved in flying model jets, you may want to look into something a little slower first. These pilots have invested quite a bit of time in their hobby.

Usually in the jet modeling end of the hobby, you find that modelers have been flying some form of model aviation for a few years.

The high tech aircrafts come with equally advanced remote controls. From the ground pilots can control and monitor all the mechanics of the plane.

With the popularity of this hobby quickly growing, you may want to make your way out to Skymac Park for the next event.
