The state’s largest center for mentally challenged adults receives its first Type-A citation in nine months.
The citation states that a patient at The Communities at Oakwood almost choked to death on a hamburger. This occurred after caretakers failed to follow rules on how to feed him.
The man had a history of choking and was to use an infant spoon, to encourage him to take small bites.
This is the first citation since the Bluegrass Mental Health-Mental Retardation Board took over the Somerset, Ky., facility in November 2006.
