President Bush has a new White House counselor.
Ed Gillespie will replace Dan Bartlett, who announced earlier this month he’s leaving to begin a career outside government.
Bartlett was Bush’s longest-serving advisor, who stepped into the public eye during times of trouble. He aggressively defended Bush on the Iraq war, the response to Hurricane Katrina and the Republicans’ loss of Congress.
Gillespie is a high-dollar Washington lobbyist and a former Republican Party Chief.
Bush described Gillespie as a “seasoned hand” and a “strategic thinker.”
