A Clay City police chief was shot to death on June 13, 2007, after responding to a call.
According to Kentucky State Police, Police Chief Randy Lacy and a Powell County Deputy Sheriff responded to a DUI complaint around 11 a.m. on Wednesday.
Police said the shooting happened after 27-year-old Jamie Barnett was arrested. Barnett was being transported to the Powell County Corrections Facility by Chief Lacy.
Medical personnel were called to the scene, but were unable to assist Chief Lacy.
Barnett was found outside the vehicle and apprehended.
Charges are pending. Lacy had been police chief in Clay City since 2004. His law enforcement experience dates back to 1985.
An autopsy is scheduled on Chief Lacy for June 14.
