It wasn't until 1972 that President Richard Nixon established a permanent national observance of Fathers Day to be held the third Sunday of every June.

This Father's Day has extra special meaning to one South Central Kentucky man. He recently became a father after trying for twelve years.

Allen Sturm is finally able to share in his first Father's Day of being a father himself.

"Abby is a miracle without a doubt", says new father, Allen Strum.

"We went through fertility drugs and adoption....we considered doing that", he says.

After feeling his wish of having children of his own wasn't going to be granted, he was overjoyed when his wife called to tell him she was pregnant. He says it really could not have come at a better time.

"This is incredibly special just a day before Fathers Day", he says.

He says seeing his daughter Abby for the first time really made time stand still.

"All I could do initially was cry and then when they put her in my arms the tears turn to laughter", he says.

"I told her this morning when I was holding and rocking her at about 5:15, I told her Abby you can be anything you want to be", says Allen.

Allen says he is so excited to see what the future holds for Abby.

"We want to give her room to grow, she can't ever move away but she can grow", says Allen.

Even being away for this interview was too long for Allen to be away from Abby.

"Bring that baby to me", says Allen.

Baby Abby was born at 8:23 Saturday morning at the Medical Center in Bowling Green.

Abby's full name is Abigail Emery Sturm.

Abigail means "a father's joy". Allen says it couldn't have been a more perfect name, especially with baby Abby being born Father's Day weekend.
