It's a pre-emptive strike against old man winter.
Highway crews got an early start as they prepare for snowfall expected to begin early tomorrow morning. You may have already noticed the thin white lines on roadways throughout the area.
Trucks began pre-treating these roads with brine dumping more than 150,000 gallons of the salty liquid where they could.
Keirsten Jagges with the Dept. Transportation Cabinet says they tried to hit as many roads as possible.
"You've got your A-routes, your B-routes, your C-routes. The A-routes are your intestates, your parkways. Your B-routes are 231, 31W, 68-80, routes like that. And your C-routes are everything else."
Statewide a fleet of more than a thousand snowplows combined with huge stockpiles of salt and other snow-fighting material is being used to help keep busy roads safe as snow begins to fall.
