With the disaster in Haiti, it's been a nightmare for one local family who has children there. Although not biological, the family adopted them almost two years ago, and they may be coming home soon.

An image depicting sadness, hopelessness, and despairity, was at one time, all the Pickett family had to hold on to.

"I would always tell him, you're momma's baby, and I kept repeating that, you're momma's baby, and I would say it in creole to him, and he still tells me, I'm your baby forever, and this is what he looks like now, after I told him we're going to adopt you're going to be a part of our family," said Malinda Pickett, the adoptive mother of three Haitian children.

Malinda and Richard Pickett have taken several trips to Haiti to visit the three siblings, Danel the youngest at age 12, sister Daniela, 15,and Danielo, age 17.

All live in a suburb of Port au Prince, but when the earthquake hit, the Pickett's weren't sure Daniela was alive.

"I started having these thoughts, what if she's gone?" said Richard Pickett. "What if she's one of the victims? And that I would have to travel down to Haiti to go see where the school was and see the last place where she was."

It's been a 5-year battle to adopt the children, and the Pickett's haven't lost hope. They legally adopted the children almost two years ago, and now they may finally get to come home.

"This week's been a rollercoaster, not knowing if Daniela is alive, then finding out she is, and then finding out we can get their visas." With visas ready, Richard plans to go to Haiti and bring their children back next week.

The Pickett's have 2 biological children, but say they love their Haitian children just the same.

"They kissed me on the cheek and they said mom I love you so much, you know, they think that we've blessed them, but really, they have blessed us, because really we get to feel what it's like to give three children a blessing that is so awesome," said Malinda, tearing up as she spoke.
