Volunteers Clean Up After I-65 Bus Crash

South Central Kentuckians came out to help the victims of the crash. Volunteers from the Red Cross began clean up on June 26, 2007, at the emergency shelter at the Christ Episcopal Church of Bowling Green.

Members of Cedar Grove Baptist, Little Zion Baptist and The Taylor Chapel AME spent their day getting things back to normal at Christ Episcopal.

The Red Cross said that they were so overwhelmed by the community response, they had to actually turn volunteers away.

“We were at a 3-to-1 ratio of volunteers to clients, so we were really pleased with the community response,” said Bill Schlicht, with SoKy Red Cross

The Red Cross said the perishable items will be given to The Salvation Army and the Bowling Green Fire Department. All other donated materials will stay with the Red Cross for future needs.

Clean-up also took place on I-65, as they successfully towed the C&R tour bus from under the overpass.
