Attorneys for a state lawmaker’s son convicted of killing a pedestrian while driving drunk in 2005, have asked for a new trial.
In April 2007, Harrison Yonts was sentenced to 20 years in prison after being found guilty in the wanton murder of Nadia Shaheen.
Yonts’ attorneys are asking for a new trial based on new evidence that Shaheen may have been hit by a second vehicle the night of the crash.
Yonts’ attorney claims a Murray man saw his employee hit something at the scene of the crash, close to the time Shaheen was hit.
A hearing is scheduled July 9. Yonts is the son of State Representative Brent Yonts of Greenville, Ky.
