In Search for the True Springfield

You’ve probably heard by now The Simpsons are coming to the big screen. The Fox hit is based in a fictional town called Springfield, but no one knows what state it’s in.

With the movie due out this summer, Springfields nationwide, including here in Kentucky are vying to be chosen as the best real-life Springfield.
Fourteen towns are competing to get the title and host the movie premiere and all the Hollywood treatment.

Springfield, Ky., said they have a whole cast of characters to prove they are the perfect choice.

“People in Kentucky that are not aware that there is a Springfield, Ky., have finally realized that we have a great town,” said Laurie Smith, Springfield City Administrator.

Springfield, Ky., has a classic city hall, the local watering hole and a statue of town heroes. The only thing they’re missing is a nuclear power plant.

From now through July 9, 2007, votes can be cast on the USA Today website for what you think is the real Springfield. The movie arrives in theaters July 27.
