New Joint Chiefs of Staff Announced

President Bush announces new heads of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.

Bush presented Admiral Michael Mullen as the new Joint Chiefs chairman.

Mullens will replace General Peter Pace.

General James Cartwright becomes vice chairman.

The announcement comes at a crucial time for the president who sent a top aide to Capitol Hill on June 28, 2007, to confront rising GOP frustration with the Iraq war.
