Kentucky Democrats question whether Governor Fletcher is being motivated by politics in planning to call the legislature into a special session next week.
The session could cost $300,000 or more.
House Speaker Jody Richards said the House has the option of convening and dismissing on the same day. Richards and other Democratic lawmakers have been sparring with Fletcher and other Republican leaders over the need for a special session.
Fletcher has said he intends to call the session to approve tax incentives for coal-conversion plants he’s looking to building in Kentucky.
Richards said the matter is not urgent and should be put off until lawmakers meet in regular session next January 2008.
