OWENSBORO, Ky. (AP) -- A former preacher has been sentenced to 20 years after a jury found him guilty of a first-degree rape committed in 1984.
The Owensboro Messenger-Inquirer reports 77-year-old Prince Wilbert Woolfolk was charged with raping a 17-year-old in the office of the Seventh Street Church of God in Christ in Owensboro.
According to testimony at trial, Woolfolk picked the victim up from her school under the pretense of talking to her about the choir. He took her to the church office, held her down on a desk and raped her. Days later, the victim tried to give herself an abortion with a coat hanger.
The medical record from that hospital visit turned out to be a major piece of evidence in the trial.
It took an Owensboro jury less than 90 minutes Friday to convict Woolfolk.
