Governor Steve Beshear says he and Kentucky lawmakers will work together to find a solution to the state's budget shortfall.
The governor said Monday he's waiting to see what plans lawmakers have to help shore up a $1.5 billion dollar deficit over the next two years.
Chamber leaders in both the House and Senate have rejected part of the governor's budget proposal, which includes 780-million dollars in revenue from casino gaming at Kentucky horse tracks.
"If the legislature doesn't want to go in that direction, then they need to have the courage to step up and come up with something else. Now, they started talking about taxes a little bit but they've backed off of that now and I backed them off of it because I said we're just not going to have that."
The governor has remained opposed to a "broad-based tax increase" as a way to boost revenue for Kentucky.
