A proposed $2 billion power plant in western Kentucky has received a final permit from the state for discharging treated wastewater.

The Cash Creek plant would convert coal into synthetic natural gas that can be burned to generate electricity or sold through a gas pipeline.

The Henderson Gleaner reports that the state Division of Water issued a permit Monday that will allow the plant to discharge 1.89 million gallons of wastewater each day. The permit prohibits discharging water hotter than 89 degrees and sets limits on pollutants including oil and grease and cyanide.

People who object to the final permit can request a public hearing within 30 days of the issuance of the permit.
