A little building with a lot of history is destroyed in Grayson County after a fire rips through it.
The Green Farm General Store in Falls of Rough caught fire late Sunday night.
The store was built in 1843 and stood inside the Green Farm Resort.
Those with the resort had recently re-opened the store, but Falls of Rough residents haven't forgotten the building's past.
"We saw a glow in the air, and we got closer and closer and we could tell it was something on fire," said David McClellan, a Falls of Rough resident.
This is all that's left of what once was the Green Farm General Store.
"It's just a piece of history that's lost," he said.
McClellan called 911 when he saw the fire from the highway.
"Flames were 100 to 200 feet in the air when we got here."
For McClellan, seeing the store brings back memories of growing up in Falls of Rough.
"Every time I came down to see my grandparents, me, my aunt and my sister would walk up here and we'd get some candy and a Coke," he said.
"I didn't look forward to this morning when things would look different," said Chris Brown, general manager of Green Farm Resort.
Those with Green Farm say the building had recently been renovated and served as a tourist attraction.
But it's likely electrical problems are to blame for the massive blaze.
"There was some old wiring in the building and I'm sure that was the cause of the fire," Brown said.
Now work will begin to re-build.
But folks in Falls of Rough say it won't be the same.
"We can replace the building, but we can't replace the history," Brown said.
The general store was also a part of the National Register of Historic Places.
Those with the Green Farm Resort say they will rebuild, possibly within the next few months.
