A Senate committee begins debating the president’s nominee for surgeon general.
Doctor James Holsinger of Lexington was introduced by Senator Mitch McConnell. McConnell called Holsinger’s career “inspiring and impressive.”
Holsinger is facing some tough questions as the last surgeon general said his office was manipulated for political reasons. Holsinger said he’d resign before letting politics push aside science.
Holsinger also tried to answer criticism of his past writings, particularly those on homosexuality.
