SMITHLAND, Ky. (AP) -- A woman testified about the last time she saw her children alive during a sentencing hearing for a western Kentucky man who pleaded guilty to attacking her and killing her three children.

Kevin Wayne Dunlap has pleaded guilty to the children's deaths and the assault and rape of their mother, who was attacked at her rural Trigg County home on Oct. 15, 2008.

The Paducah Sun reported that the mother testified on Friday how she was stabbed and left for dead after he set fire to her home. She was able to escape the burning home, but her children died from several stab wounds, according to a medical examiner.

The woman is not being identified by The Associated Press because she was a victim of a sexual assault.
