28-year-old Michael McCoy is dead after being shot by a man his family described as "a good friend" of his.

27-year-old Clifton Jones is in jail in Butler County for McCoy's murder late last night.

Police say Jones shot McCoy "in the head" and then fled the scene, only to be arrested later by KSP in Hart County.

Its a surreal scene for the McCoy family as they wait and wonder why their beloved family member had to die.

"He had a good raising. He was a hard worker and Michael was pretty much a dependable guy," says his aunt, Marecia Chandler.

Kentucky State Police say McCoy was fatally shot at a home on Provo Road in Butler County around midnight, Tuesday evening.

Right now police are investigating what happened between McCoy and his friend, Jones that led to the shooting.

Chandler says whatever happened... there was no reason for her nephew to die.

"He should be punished. I don't know how anybody can shoot anybody like that. He was supposed to be one of Michael's closest friends and none of us can understand how this happened."

McCoy's mother, Donna, says her only son was just a fun-loving guy who loved life and would do anything for those around him.

"Its very hard. Michael was always like one of my own and its like losing one of my own. Its like a parent isn't supposed to bury their child. Its just really hard," adds Chandler.

But possibly the hardest thing about McCoy's death is the fact his young son, Jagger, will grow up without his father.

"I'm sure its gonna break Jagger's heart even though he's only 4 1/2. I know he's going to have a lot of good memories of his dad and I know its going to be hard for him to understand a lot of it," Chandler says.

Chandler believes her nephew is in better place and that he wouldn't want his family to mourn for him.

"He had his little sympathetic side, but Michael was a pretty tough guy so he wouldn't want us to be feeling this way... but its still hard.

The last time Chandlers says she saw McCoy alive was this past Sunday when he took part in a birthday for another one of his aunts.

Clifton Jones is being charged with "murder" as well as multiple traffic charges in Hart County in connection to Tuesday night's shooting.
