Western is getting a helping hand from U.S. Senator Mitch McConnell .
The Senate Republican leader from Ky. secured more than $5-million for agriculture projects at WKU.
McConnell appropriated $2-million for an "Agriculture Research Service" or ARS Lab, which is one of two research labs in Ky.
The university is also receiving almost $3-million for ARS research on waste management.
The research will look at ways to prevent contamination from waste and to keep livestock production from declining.
The school will also receive $125,000 for the Green River Quality and Biological Diversity Project.
This project will measure the conservation efforts in the Green River watershed.
