Judge Says Three Convicted Sex Offenders Can't Be Charged

A Jefferson District judge dismissed charges against three convicted sex offenders who were arrested for living too close to schools and a youth treatment center.

The judge said the men can't be charged because they were convicted before a new state law went into effect. The new law bars sex offenders from living within 1000-ft. of the property line of places like schools and day care centers

The old state law required sex offenders to live at least 1000-ft. away from the building itself.

The new law applies to all offenders.
