The county jailer in Owensboro says he is planning to create a children's activity center for kids who visit family members in jail.

Daviess County Jailer David Osborne hopes to raise some funding from the community. He says he sees "several dozen" children in the jail's lobby every day and hopes to make it a less scary place for the young visitors.

The Messenger-Inquirer in Owensboro reports Osborne took the idea from a story he saw on the Allegheny County Jail in Pennsylvania. That jail has an activity center for kids.

He says Daviess County's center would include toys, a craft table and a book corner.
