It's a scam using the name of a school to make some quick cash.

They're posing as baseball players and they want you to buy their magazines.

It's a crime that's got some school officials frustrated and one Bowling Green police want you to be aware of.

Wednesday was a night for the Bowling Green Lady Purples to get some well-deserved attention.

After all, they're playing in the Sweet 16.

But it's the recent attention from another sport that's called for no celebration.

"Someone is out in the community trying to solicit our name," said Gary Fields, principal at Bowling Green High School.

Fields says someone is going door-to-door in the Eastland Park neighborhood claiming to sell magazines for a Purples baseball fundraiser.

"What they thought were students were saying they were baseball players collecting money for a trip this summer to Cooperstown, to the Baseball Hall of Fame," Fields said.

Fields says the school's received a number of calls over the last two days questioning the fundraising campaign.

"It's not a legitimate fundraiser," he said. "Our students wouldn't be knocking on doors asking for money."

Police are investigating the situation.

They say the suspects are white males, possibly in their 20s.

And what the may be trying to do, like so many scams, is prey on the elderly.

"We don't want people to be duped and we certainly don't want people to be duped when someone's using our name," Fields said.

If you know about, or see anyone at your door regarding this scam, you're asked to immediately call police.
