The Class of 1994 gathered at Barren River Lake State Resort Park the weekend of May 10. Cabins 504, 507, and 510 were rented to members of the class who had come to the reunion.
According to the State Park's incident report, at 7:15 the next morning a cook at the lodge, John Moss, went outside for a smoke. When Moss came outside to smoke, he realized he had forgotten his lighter. When he went tot the parking lot to retrieve that lighter, he looked toward the downstairs loading dock, where he saw Jeremy "Scotty" Martin lying in a pool of blood.
It's estimated that Martin fell off the retaining wall eleven feel above the dock.
In a statement to park rangers, John Moss said, "When I approached the first time I touched his shoulder and asked him to wake up, that was when I saw all the blood, called 911."
At 7:55 an ambulance and a Stat Care helicopter were dispatched to the park. At 8:55 Martin was flown to Vanderbilt Medical Center in, Nashville. He died two weeks later.
State Parks initially denied an Open Records request for the incident but that decision was overturned by the Attorney General. WBKO contacted the State Park offices, in Frankfort; they declined to comment due to the ongoing investigation.
Kentucky State Police tell WBKO they expect their investigation to be complete at the end of August and will be able to provide more details then.
