Monroe Fire Displaces Residents

At least 30 people in Monroe County are homeless on Aug. 2, 2007, after fire guts their apartment building.

The fire happened on Highway 1366 just outside of Tompkinsville. Fire officials said at least 30 immigrant workers made it out safely, but the building is a total loss.

The state fire marshall is on the scene trying to figure out what sparked the blaze. Volunteer fire departments from Mud Lick, Flippin and Gamaliel responded. The building was fully engulfed when they arrived. The Red Cross is helping displaced residents find a place to stay.

We have a crew there as well and will have the latest tonight on WBKO at five and six.
