Dealing With Teen Peer Pressure

Peer pressure seems to surround our children everywhere they turn. Whether it's from society in general, or simply from their peers, our kids are constantly feeling the need to fit it and do well.

Child Psychologist Bill Pfohl says the best thing parents can do is know who their children's friends and peers are. He even says your children really do want you to say "No" sometimes. They need to know their limits.

Dr. Pfohl also says there are a lot more things out there for kids to be pressured about, including drugs, alcohol, and differing attitudes toward sex. He says teenagers seldom realize the consequences of their behavior, and he says they need someone they trust to confide in.

If not a relative, then a guidance counselor, a teacher, a minister, or a youth leader.
