Billy Paul, Looking Glass, and The Penguins. You may not know these musical artists, but you probably know their songs; "Me and Mrs. Jones", "Brandy (You're a Fine Girl)", and "Earth Angel".
They're all songs by one hit wonders. Now, the Bowling Green Chamber Orchestra is playing tribute to those artists who only had fifteen minutes of fame, but whose songs are timeless.
Chances are, you know all the words to "I Will Survive". But could you name the artist who originally sang it? The answer is Gloria Gaynor, a one hit wonder.
And in this Warren County home, members of the Bowling Green Chamber Orchestra are fine tuning a show that's chock full of number ones by one hit wonders.
"A lot of these groups had more than one song that charted. We had to pick ones that were top 10 hits and most of these are number ones," said Jeff Reed, Music Director for the Bowling Green Chamber Orchestra.
It's a theme that allows for a lot of variety. And these are songs crowds know by heart with just one line, or just a few notes.
And until this band joins the 25-piece orchestra, they're on their own. Perfecting the harmonies and hitting the right notes.
"The band and vocalists are really the core of the show. And if they're gathered and well-prepared, then it all falls together pretty well," explained Reed.
The One Hit Wonders concert will be performed on Aug. 10 and Aug. 11at 8 at the Capitol Arts Center.
The event will be hosted by The Gong Show's Chuck Barris. Tickets can be purchased by calling 1-270-846-2426 or by visiting BGCO.com.
