The National Retail Federation estimates that on average most families spend a little less than five hundred dollars each year on back to school supplies. The Barren County school board is hoping to keep that number down. The school board told elementary schools not to send home any school supply lists to parents this year. The board is providing fifteen dollars worth of school supplies for each student. School officials hope this will help parents pay for school supplies. School officials estimate they will spend thirty three thousand dollars on school supplies this year.
