Bowling Green Mayor, Sandy Jones, made the announcement today with Senator Mitch McConnell in attendance. Several other in the community also came out for the announcement. Senator McConnell says he's honored the park has been named for him.
Mitch McConnell: "What Bowling Green is doing here is recognizing the importance of re-discovering the river. And that's why Bowling Green was originally here, the Barren River. And think a lot of river cities have gotten away from what brought them here in the first place. This River Walk project has played a huge role in bringing people down here and I was pleased to play a small role in helping bring it about."
Senator McConnell was given the honor because of the federal funds he helped secure for the [park's 2002 renovation, and the federal money he brought to the region for economic development.
