Ky. Supreme Court Justice Steps Down

William E. McAnulty, the first African-American to serve on the Kentucky Supreme Court is stepping down from the bench to focus on his fight against cancer.

The 59-year-old McAnulty said in a statement on Aug. 9 that his recovery from lung cancer takes precedent over his seat on the state's highest court.

He called serving on the court the most satisfying experience of his career, but that he needs to devote his energy to completing his cancer treatment.
