NASA Cuts Endeavour Mission Short

NASA is ordering space shuttle Endeavour to come home one day early out of fear Hurricane Dean might disrupt flight operations.

The shuttle is now scheduled to depart from the International Space Station on Aug. 19 with landing set for Aug. 21.

The astronauts had hurriedly completed a shortened spacewalk and were still cleaning up when the decision came down from mission managers.

NASA was worried the hurricane might veer toward Houston, forcing an emergency relocation of flight controllers to Cape Canaveral.

The makeshift control center there would not be as good or big as the Houston operation.
