TVA Asks Large Industries to Reduce Use

TVA is asking major industrial customers to voluntarily reduce electric consumption.

The request came after a substation fire forced the agency to take one boiler off line at a large coal-fired power plant in Kentucky.

The partial outage at the Paradise Fossil Plant came as an extended heat wave was expected to push temperatures to near 100 degrees through Aug. 24, 2007, in TVA’s seven-state territory.

The blaze was extinguished without injuries, but knocked out a high-voltage transmission line to the Paradise Plant near Drakesboro.

TVA had to shut down one of three units at Paradise until the substation can be fixed.
