Local Volunteers Help Flood Victims

South-Central Kentucky Red Cross volunteers are headed to Ohio to assist flood victims.

At least four people left the Red Cross office on Center St. early Aug. 23.

They are going to help transport food to flood victims, who were unable to leave their homes.

For one of the volunteers, this is her fifth time to go somewhere and volunteer.

And just recently, she returned from helping victims in Texas.

"I went to Katrina and I've been to Florida and New Jersey. I just went to Texas and now I'm going to this. I'm ready to go and I'm looking forward to it," said Kathy Strong, a Red Cross volunteer.

All the volunteers have been through disaster services training.

On this trip, they are expected to work ten to fourteen hour days in Ohio's flooded areas.
