The ordinance was tabled the first time it was brought before the board of commissioners, due to citizen concerns. The newly revised ordinance would still limit the number of pets allowed, in one household, to six cats and/or dogs. It would also impose restrictions on exotic pets, an unpopular measure with some pet owners.
Scott Petty is a pet owner. He says, "A lot of people with reptiles... we breed... for me, a lot of them are released back into the wild."
After an extended and heated debate surrounding the proposed new ordinance, the commission board voted to table the measure again.
If the ordinance is re-written the board of commissioners could take up the matter at its next meeting, in September.
