Some Pulaski County Residents Without Water For Days

Most of us are being told to cut back on our water use but what if you turned on the faucet and nothing came out--even for days at at time?

That's a reality for dozens of people in western Pulaski County.

One resident said he woke up on a recent Saturday morning, turned on the faucet and nothing came out and he didn't have any water until Monday morning. His problems happened on the weekends but others say it happens to them every single day.

Nellie Molen is used to being without water.

"We have went as long as two days without it. They cut it off at 5 (in the afternoon), and leave it off until 1, 2, 3 or 4 in the morning. I do without," the Faubush resident explained.

Molen and her neighbors are used to sudden outages because the water main that feeds them is too small.

Officials said there's plenty of water in Lake Cumberland but not a big enough pipe to supply all the people that needs it.

"They tell me we use too much water. And they tell me the water line is too small to keep the water pumped in here," Molen added.

So people in the Faubush area stock up on bottled water and they have buckets next to the toilet with back up supplies outside.

"I've got a five-gallon tank I keep it for the commode and I got my water jugs that I do my dishes and drinking water," Molen admitted.

The good news is that there was a pre-construction meeting on Aug. 30 and the project to fix the problem is supposed to start in about 10 days. It should be done by the end of the year.

Pulaski County officials say a $620,000 grant should take care of most of the expense to build a larger pipeline.
