Governor Plans to Help Seniors

Governor Fletcher hopes to improve the state's services and readiness to assist Kentucky's seniors.

At the annual "Aging and Independent Living Conference," the governor outlined his vision for aging-related legislation.

Governor Fletcher's plan to help seniors "age in place" includes:

  • A commitment to take thousands of seniors off waiting lists for such programs as meals on wheels, adult day care and home care

  • Access to long term care coverage

  • Caregiver tax credits

  • Expanding consumer directed options

  • Partnering with public housing

At the Sept. 5 conference, Fletcher said failure to aggressively fund and support aging programs in Kentucky will leave communities unprepared for the retirement of baby boomers.
